About Us

Founded in 1983 by Mrs. Eveline Erard, the Academy of Ballet has provided exceptional classical ballet training to students in the Fredericksburg area for more than four decades. Our mission is to cultivate artistry, discipline, confidence, and a lifelong appreciation for the beauty of dance in a supportive and inspiring environment.

Located in the heart of Historic Downtown Fredericksburg at 824 Caroline Street (with studio access through the George Street alley), our studio offers a welcoming space where students of all ages and experience levels can grow. From a child's very first ballet class to advanced pre-professional training, each student receives thoughtful instruction, individual encouragement, and a strong technical foundation.

Our spacious studio features professional Marley flooring, ballet barres, mirrors, high ceilings, and a comfortable observation area for families. Every aspect of our facility is designed to support safe, quality dance education.

At the Academy of Ballet, we believe that dance is about more than technique. Through excellent instruction, meaningful performance opportunities, and a commitment to artistic excellence, we strive to develop not only skilled dancers but confident, disciplined, and gracious young people.

The pre-professional performance ensemble of Academy of Ballet

Fredericksburg City Ballet Company is an extension of Academy of Ballet’s training program, created to inspire dedicated dancers through expanded opportunities for performance, enrichment, and artistic growth. Participation in the company is by invitation and is open to Advanced level students who demonstrate strong technique, maturity, and a deep commitment to their training.

Company Purpose

The Fredericksburg City Ballet Company exists to:

• Offer serious students a deeper experience in classical ballet and related disciplines

• Inspire younger dancers through excellence in performance

• Build community through shared work, mentorship, and creative collaboration

What Company Members Can Expect

Company dancers attend an additional weekly class dedicated to enhancing their technique, versatility, and artistry. These classes rotate throughout the season and may include:

• Stretching and conditioning

• Turns and pointe work

• Variations and repertoire

• Ballet terminology and history

• Improvisation and choreography

Company members may also be invited to:

• Attend special workshops, lectures, and company events

• Participate in field trips, dance films, or performances

• Represent the studio in public performances or outreach opportunities

Select company dancers may be invited to participate in Youth America Grand Prix (YAGP), an international ballet competition focused on performance and educational experience. This opportunity is reserved for dancers ready to commit to focused preparation and artistic development at an advanced level.
